Backpacking PACKING Tips

  1. Sleeping bag compartment
    1. With other sleeping stuff
  2. Tent on the bottom of main compartment
    1. Stuff sack or compression sack
    2. Tent poles and stakes separate
  3. Heaviest items closest to your back (between shoulder blades)
    1. Example : food (not snacks)
  4. Clothes on top
  5. Tent poles in side pocket
    1. Secure with compression sack
    2. Tent stakes on opposite side
  6. Rain jacket on top of pack for quick access
    1. Preferably under lid
  7. Ten Essentials.. PLUS
    1. Store at easy access area from OUTSIDE of backpack
      1. May need quick access to Headlamp, First Aid, knife
      2. Other items like bear-bag line
      3. Carabiners, etc.
  8. Water bottle and Snacks at outside easy-access pockets
    1. Snacks in hip strap pockets if available
    2. Carabiner for water bottle
  9. Other items
    1. Extra footwear for water crossing
    2. Crocs recommended
