Training Backpack Outing – Valley Forge – May 17-18, 2014

Here is the plan for our May Camping Trip:  Training Backpack Outing from Red Box to Valley Forge Campsite, Angeles National Forest.
If you are interested in going, please bring the attached permission slip and $25 to the troop meeting on MAY 11th.  You must have all paperwork in by the meeting (or E-mail confirmation) so we can accurately plan food, tents, etc.  Any exceptions must be cleared by the tour leader, Mr. Hanhart.

Please note that this is a backpacking trip.  We do have extra backpacks for rent at $20.00 if you need one, so do not let that stop you from coming on the trip!  Just E-mail me to reserve.  FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED

The hike into Valley Forge is a good starter hike of 2.3 miles, down hill to start.  The hike starts at a parking lot called Red Box, in Angeles National Forest.

OUTING UPDATE 5/15/14

It is almost here, Valley Forge Backpack outing.  We have added Ryan B. for the trip;  WELCOME

Attached is the EQUIPMENT CHECK LIST.

Once again we are having a Pack Out Meeting on Friday, May 16th, 5:00PM at El Retiro parking lot.  This is the equipment distribution, packing and weigh out for all backpacks.

BRING TWO WATER BOTTLES WITH YOU.  I suggest one of them being a large (liter) Arrowhead type plastic bottle.  We will be mixing drinks in it and I don’t want to make a good waterbottle a “smellable”.  If you need any equipment:

Slight change in the weather:  http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/USCA0742
Perfect weekend for backpacking; highs 74, lows 42  10% chance of showers Saturday, wind up to 12 knots.

DON’T FORGET YOUR BACKPACKING MB WORK SHEET

THIS IS A TRAINING OUTING, SO WE WILL BE GOING OVER HIKING & BACKPACKING SAFETY, MAP / COMPASS, HOW TO DO THINGS, ETC.  If you need a sign offs, bring your Scout book also.
