Scoutmasters

The Scoutmaster is the adult leader who presides over Troop Operations and sets the “tone” of the Scouting program.  He knows the quality of his leadership touches every Troop member, and can potentially impart a life-long impression of Scouting.  He is supported by the Assistant Scoutmasters (ASMs), and all must take specialized BSA endorsed training.  The Scoutmaster is nominated by the Troop Committee, and approved by the Charter Organization.  ASMs are recruited based on talent and interest.  General responsibilities and duties are listed below:

Scoutmaster

  • Provides training, guidance, and mentorship to the Scout (youth) leaders.  Regularly attends Patrol Leader’s Councils (PLCs) to mentor and assist Scouts in planning activities.
  • Builds a strong and safe Program by using the proven methods presented in Boy Scout training and instruction, and adhering to all Boy Scout policies.
  • Provides opportunities for all boys to participate fully in meetings, Outdoor activities, and to advance in rank via the Troop Program..
  • Seeks to maintain or advance Troop membership and keep all Scouts engaged in Troop.
  • Oversees all Troop meetings or assigns a qualified substitute when necessary.
  • Conducts periodic parent sessions to share the Program and enlist parent participation and cooperation.
  • Is available to conduct Scoutmaster Conferences in a timely manner upon request.
  • Provides a systematic recruiting plan for new members and see that they are properly registered, and offers support to local Packs (Pack 718).
  • Delegates responsibility to other adults and ASMs so they have a real part in Troop Operations.
  • Supervises Troop leader and Order of the Arrow elections in accordance to Boy Scout practices.
  • Participates in Council and District events.

Assistant Scoutmasters

  • Assists in the operations of the Troop, using the methods of the Boy Scout Program, and under the direction of the Scoutmaster.
  • Fulfills specific duties delegated to them by the Troop Committee or by the Scoutmaster, and necessary for Troop Operations.
  • Adheres to all Boy Scout policies.
