Troop 718 follows strict polices so boys and family members can feel safe. All Troop adults are asked to take BSA Youth Protection Training and read “A Parent’s Guide” tear out section in the Scout Handbook.
Keeping our Scout family safe is everyone’s job. If you witness an abusive situation or believe one has occurred, call local law enforcement immediately. For advice or support, the BSA hotline is 1-844-726-8871 (SCOUTS 1st). For Code of Conduct matters, please bring your concerns to the Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, or another adult volunteer.
BSA Youth Protection
Youth Protection means:
- Enforcement of “Two Deep Leadership”. This means two leaders must be present at all activities and a scout may never be alone with any adult who is NOT his parent.
- Registered volunteers must pass as BSA approved Youth Protection class and a background check in order to obtain a leadership position and work with Scouts.
- Parents are always welcome to attend or participate in meetings and activities.
- Enforcement of a zero tolerance policy for offensive or inappropriate behavior, by a scout or an adult.
Scout Code of Conduct
Scouts are expected to follow the tenets of the Scout Law at all events and dealings with other Scouts and Troop adults. Disciplinary action may result from any of the following willful behavior:
- Disrespect for the privacy or other Scouts, as described in the BSA Youth Protection Policy.
- Bullying, such as hazing, coercion, shunning, spreading rumors, threatening or enacting physical or emotional violence against another member, either in person, through others, or using cyber tools.
- Use of derogatory or explicit language, involving racial, ethnic, or religious slurs, or of a sexual nature, in discussions with or directed at other Troop members, either in person or using cyber tools.
- Extreme disregard for the safety or property of other Scouts, Leaders, or Troop family members.
- Any of the above infractions while attending a public event, while in uniform and acting as a representative of Troop 718 or of Boy Scouts.
