Costs

Troop 718 collects annual membership fees of $125, to cover BSA registration, insurance, Boys’ Life Magazine subscription, rank and other awards, and other operating costs.

Upon joining, each Scout is given a “Rocketship” neckerchief and slide set, a BSA handbook, the Troop 718 shoulder patch, and a Scout patch.  The initial cost to the Scout for his uniform (shirt, pants, belt, socks, and sash) is $80-$100.

Monthly outings and Summer Camp are paid for separately, based on participation.  Weekend outings (Friday night to Sunday morning) typically cost $25-$40, to pay for for food, transportation, venue, and activities.   Most Scouts participate in about six outings a year.  Summer Camp prices range from $300-$500 for a six day/five night all-inclusive camp.

The Troop provides tents and cooking equipment for all overnight outings.  Scouts need to provide their own personal gear.  Adult leaders will advise parents regarding “what to buy” for outings, i.e. sleeping bags, backpacks, boots, etc., so they can make informed purchase decisions with value, durability, comfort and safety in mind.
