Before You Purchase

Troop 718 provides tents, ice chests, stoves, cooking gear, and other equipment so Scouts can participate in car camping outings with minimal personal gear.   Scouts are responsible for their own personal items such as sleeping bags, “10 Essentials”, hiking boots, backpacks, etc.   Review the lists by clicking below or go to the “What to Pack” page in this Menu to download a list.

Because proper fit and comfort can impact a Scout’s safety and his experience, the Troop holds a Parent Information Meeting to recommend camping and backpacking gear that is best suited for growing boys.  The meeting also discusses how to get the best value for your money and what not to buy.   We recommend parents attend this meeting or consult with a Scoutmaster before making expensive purchases.   Adults who attend campouts are expected to provide their own tents and personal gear.

Below are “quick view” lists of items Scouts will need.  Downloadable checklists are available on the Outing Essentials page.
